Settling In

Today I finally got the keys to my new apartment. It's time to pull the boxes out of storage and set up shop. I'm starting to feel like I've settled in, and I've had a month full of recordings. Next week I'll have my first session for the Kingdom Hearts game series. I'm looking forward to the chance to try out some new material. Then, it's off to Sacramento to visit the rest of the family.

After an exhausting and well postured two day drive across the country, my brother and I successfully arrived in Southern California a few weeks ago. It was the second time I had done the drive this year, but I can honestly say that fact didn't make it any easier. This time I was driving a 24' rental truck...complete with air brakes, and steps up to the drivers seat.

Turning the key on my house for the last time was a lot harder than I had imagined. In some ways, I think I still feel like I have a house back in Kansas City, just waiting for my next visit. Buying my house was a huge accomplishment for me. I loved that house, and honestly pictured myself there for a while. I still had a lot of plans for that tiny bungalow...but I know there will be another house, and if anything, I can always look back on my first house as a huge blessing, and great learning experience. My best friend said leaving the house for the last time, with my friends helping me, seemed like the final episode of 'Friends'. I think that is the perfect description.

I came across this quote in a parking garage last night. It's funny because the first time I heard it was right after I had told my Hallmark manager about the journey I was about to embark on. It was a nice reminder, and seemed fitting enough to end this post with.

"Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid."

California Here I Come

Sore back? Stiff shoulders? Exhausted?

If so, you may have just packed your entire house into a Budget Rental truck ( or semi depending on how you look at it).

My brother and I just completed two extremely long days of moving everything I owned from the house to the truck. I tried my best to have everything packed in boxes, but you know there are always a few items that seem to be left out and inevitably are tossed on top of the overwhelming pile. Now the trick will be driving the gigantor truck across the plaines, desert and mountains on my way to Southern California.

Once the house closes on Friday, everything will be official. I little scary of a thought.

Disney Studio Lot

I had the opportunity to visit the Walt Disney Studios lot today, and besides the unseasonably hot weather, it was a great day. The Archives Research Library never gets old, and it's also fun to see who's at the lot filming.

Our group with a personal friend of mine, Mickey Mouse

Back in the beginning of September, my friends and I were able to attend the opening day of the first ever D23 Expo. I had no clue what to expect, but I was really looking forward to the Disney Legends Ceremony where Tony Anselmo and Bill Farmer were inducted. The whole event ended up being so much more that I thought, with an awesome exhibit from Disney Parks and Resorts, a very moving opening ceremony, and a ton of other exhibits. I was also able to reconnect with my friend from college, and official D23 artist, Tim Rogerson. Tim was responsible for the amazing Mickey Mouse artwork featured all over the expo. California Here I Come!

After 24 hrs on the road, I made it back to Southern California. Week one has been one of adjustment, but I'm hoping it gets easier the longer I'm here. Before my best friend left, we were able to scale the heights of the Hollywood Hills, and even pay a visit to the Griffith Observatory. Later in the week I was invited along on a tour of Walt Disney Television Animation, and a quick visit to the archives. Nothing beats strolling the studio streets that Walt built. Today, I'm off to visit my friend Jaime at PIXAR Animation Studios.

The house is on the market, I've told all of my management at Hallmark, and now I'm left waiting for my next move. I know I am moving to LA, and I know that it will be in the next 8 weeks, but where, and how are still to be answered. If only I had a higher vantage point and could see what was in store a little further down the road...maybe then I wouldn't try to hard to take control. I think at this point, I've just about exhausted every contact, website, email, and phone number that I can get my hands on, which could lead to a potential job. For now, I'm working on being patient, and letting it all work out.

If you know of a job opportunity, or living situation that you would recommend, please let me know!

Spring has sprung, and so have all my flowers. I've tackled a couple of projects outside so far, and I have a few more in mind. I planted a couple new rose bushes, or should I say stumps, that just don't want to grow. Maybe they're intimidated by the towering rose bush that is just going crazy so far.

Possibly the quickest vacation I've ever had, Aaron and I made it to LA on Wednesday, and were back by Saturday. Somehow we still managed to fit in an amazing trip to Disneyland, Universal City Walk, a family B-B-Q, bungalow/rose hunting, and over all just plane crazy fun.

..right back where I started from. I'll be taking a little vacation, starting tomorrow, to beautiful Pasadena, California! I'm looking forward to the chance to enjoy the warm sun, a trip to Disneyland, and the chance to get rid of the last bits of a nasty cold.

It's finally finished....I have a working shower, sink and toilet. All that's missing is someone to pick my towels off of the floor in the morning, and have them washed and waiting for me when I get home. Maybe I can train Lilly.

Here's the update. Shower tile is all up, needs to be grouted. The floors' fate is still undecided. The new paint color is up. Finishing touches are being saved till last. I want my bathroom back.

Well, I've finally started tiling the shower, and the floor has been patched. Now I need to dremel out all the floor grout, then re-grout....finish the shower tile, install the new bead board and baseboard....and a bunch of other details.

So...as predicted by my friends, a few tiles needing replaced on the shower has led to an entirely new bathroom. Tomorrow will be officially one week without a functioning shower. Restoring the tile floor has required some cement removal, and re-bracing of the floor, but I think the end result will be worth it. This weekends goals: Fix floor under the toilet, lay floor tile, and begin tiling the shower surround. Stay tuned.
