Project: Studio Makeover

This long holiday weekend, I finally started on my art studio makeover.  The studio is my third bedroom, which sits on top of the back of my house.  It has three walls of windows, for plenty of light...and a good cross breeze in the summer.  When I moved in, it was a dull khaki brown....I decided to go with "monorail silver" from Sherwin Williams, thanks to the generous donation of excess paint from my friend.  I was able to get all the walls painted, and added trim around the top of the walls to finish off the transition from wall to ceiling.  I think it helps it look a little more finished.  Still to come are the IKEA storage cups that will attach to the bar above my desk, new floating shelves for additional storage above the desk....and then art on the walls.  Good Bye brown walls.

The art of the sale

I am a huge sucker for sales. The little red stickers at Target bring me great joy. Imagine the excitement I found when I came across this Madison Buffet floor sample on sale at Crate and Barrel. With the 50% off, and a few gift cards from Christmas, I was able to bring it home.

M-I-C-K-E-Y.....mouse

It's no secret that I love Mickey Mouse. I love drawing him, I love visiting him in Disneyland, and I love the fact that he was inspired by the pet mouse Walt Disney kept in the drawer of his laugh-o-gram's studio, which coincidentally, just happens to be a few blocks from where I'm sitting right now. I'm sure it was nice to have a little pet hidden in his desk drawer. A little companion on the long nights of animating. In contrast to my present day situation....I AM NOT a fan of the little mouse that has decided to take up refuge within the walls of my kitchen. Every morning I find little gifts, neatly placed in a trail on my kitchen counter. And some mornings, if I'm lucky, some food bag/box has been eaten through. Today I am declaring war. I am calling out all the stops, and won't rest until I have a dead mouse.

Mouse tip: They say Dogs are actually better than cats when it comes to a mouse problem. I would highly disagree. Unless the mouse is wrapped in raw hide, I doubt Lilly is going to do anything about it.

2009!

I figured it's about time to start posting in 2009, so to start things off, here are some pictures from my Christmas vacation and New Years Celebration at Disneyland. I'd highly recommend ringing in the new year at the happiest place on earth, but only if you meet these criteria:

1. Are able to stay awake approx. 22 hours without a nap
2. Are able to stand for approx. 22 hours with the occasional sitting break
3. Favor Churros over pretzels ( there are only 3 pretzel carts in the entire park )
