Tooth Town

I'm finally taking the time to post pictures from my freelance job that I've been working on for about a year and a half now.  The majority of it was completed back in August, but I still have a few last minute details to take care of as the project wraps up.

The project was to design and theme the inside of a childrens dentist office in Austin, TX.  The concept that was given to me was a mix between a cartoon town, and a quaint main street.  The office is divided into two different areas, 1) the kid general dentistry side, & 2) the slightly older teen orthodontics side.  The kids side is what became "Tooth Town", and the teen side, when finished, will have a more beach theme.

I jumped at the opportunity to use not only my illustration skills, but also my passion for environmental theme design.  There were a lot of challenges along the way...mainly because the physical office was 740 miles away, and I was designing/constructing/painting everything in my basement workshop. There were weeks of self doubt, and high points of accomplishments, but in the end I was so happy to see what had been in my head for so long, finally realized in a tangible way.  I was also glad to have regained my freedom :)  I had a lot of help from my friends, and brother Cory, without whom I would have never finished on time.  Let me just say, free pizza, and ice cream are great motivators!

What would I do without her?

Doodles

I did these doodles after looking at some skull anatomy drawings.  Yes...I know they're kind of creepy, but I rarely doodle anymore with an actual pencil, so I figured it was momentous enough to post.

Seattle Rain

Today's weather is reminding me of Seattle, so I thought I'd post some pictures from my trip last month.  It was a much needed, week long vacation to Seattle, and Anacortes, Washington.  We explored the pudget sound, kayaked the Haro Straight, ate in the Space Needle, and drank lots of Starbucks.  Good Times.

Background Painting

Here are some pictures of a backdrop painting I did for my Dad's model railroad layout, almost a year ago.  He wanted it to have a Colorado/New Mexico feel with high mountains, a green valley, and more arid landscapes near the town.  I had a lot of fun doing it, and was pretty pleased with the  finished product considering it was all done over the course of three days.

Back to Civilization

The group survived our weekend of camping, and I'm back at home with my feet up.  We had a great time of grilling out, Jamba Juice,  horseback riding, and throwing insults back and forth. Couldn't ask for a better time.

TRIP HIGHLIGHT:
Nutella, peanut butter, and marshmallow grilled sandwiches. Highly recommended!

Fall Camping

The leaves are changing color, the temperature is dropping, so it's time to go camping.  This weekend I will be embarking with friends down to Norman, OK to go camping at Lake Thunderbird.  Besides the expected joys of camping, I'm really excited to be only 10 miles away from a Jamba Juice.  Strawberry Surf Rider, here I come!

Welcome to ArtBungalow!

I decided to finally join the rest of the world in creating my very own blog.  Hopefully it will become a place to keep up on my life's happenings, my new artwork, fun home improvements, and cool stuff that inspires me.  Stay tuned for pictures from the "Great Freelance Job of '07 & '08", plenty of pictures of my dog, and tons of inside jokes.
